mommy knows best...

Before moving into the dorms, i stayed with my mom and grampa at my mom's childhood home for a couple of days.. the area smelled pretty strongly of sewer water because there's like a row of hot spring resorts nearby.. but i think i got used to the smell eventually.. and besides.. we were hardly home during the day....

my mom would pack the day so that we'd leave the house at 9 and get back around midnight... every day for 5 days... and i couldn't sleep more than like 5 hours because i was still jet lagged.. so i was pretty tired those 5 days.. not to mention mom went a little crazy with shopping .. and we stepped into almost every shoe store in taipei looking at the same shoes we saw in all the other stores.. -__- but it was good bonding time.. she showed me her elementary and middle schools.. and the temple where the boys used to always wait for her to follow her to school .. she had a lot of stalkers :)

during one of those days... mom, gramps and i met up with some distant relatives at a nice restaurant.. the food was good... but had more duck than i would have liked... my aunt fed me this chunk that i later find out was duck brain.. they said it would make me smarter... i hope it's true to make up for the mushy texture... yum! -____-

... and i got to experience a lot of other taiwan firsts with her... here are some pixes :::

mommy and grampa eating breakfast in the bedroom...

mommy looks so cute sitting in the kiddie chair <3

TAIPEI 101!!!!!

one day i will have a collection that looks just like this :)

i didn't know new york was in taipei!

the billboards here are so interactive!

don't know what the iron man is.. but i like that lil guy sitting on his shoulders :)

mom checking out the library...

this is the entrance of an MRT stop... i see a lot of these ancient chinese architecture randomly placed throughout the city... they do indeed look out of place

shi lin night market! i've been there like 5 times in the past two weeks...

a monkey store!

i think i have a secret obsession for monkeys

the signs here are so cute :)

ximen! the place where all the hip, young people like to hang out...

so mom and i went to ximen one afternoon and we saw the stage all set up for these people.. so we decided to watch... they're this unknown band called cosmos people... and they're "a real live band".. not sure why they kept emphasizing that..

they weren't bad... but all their songs sounded identical to one another... and they played their WHOLE album for us O__O

spikey backpacks!!!

the movie district in ximending

74 seconds to cross a 6 foot crosswalk.... i checked.. with a measuring tape...

walking over a bridge to cross the street...

the camera street ... in downtown taipei

pixar rocks my world..

taipei main station... SO MANY PEOPLE!

it was a windy day

not sure why i took this pix... i think this is the street of books...

the shoe street... the best part of it were these nifty ginormous concrete shoes ... the street had like 20 stores.. 3 of which sold shoes... and they looked really tacky... i think they should change the name of the street :/

you know what they say about big feet...

there are like... a million body shops here! just in taipei 101 there's 2... and i've seen two body shops directly across the street from each other... not sure why it's so popular here... but i resent yvonne for taking away my body shop card before i left for taiwan... maybe it's better that i don't have my card :)

ooo.. this is the street of book stores... not sure what the earlier pix was..

the other side of the street of book stores... no wonder taiwanese are such nerds.. just kidding :)

a sea of screaming elmos!

back to shilin! soooo many people!!!!

the main street of shilin

apparently pet stores sell pigs in taiwan

i think i've permanently blinded this puppy with my camera flash.... ooops.. sorry bout it..

:)

the golden arches leading to my dorm... so pretty!

my side of the room ... not settled in yet :)

this is like the white house of taiwan

this is still the white house...

i'm not sure why i took this picture... maybe because of the pretty building in the back

temporary alma mater... national taiwan university entrance...

i wonder if the gardeners would hate trimming this bush if the "tai" was traditional instead ...

such a pretty campus...

the main walkway... palm tree lane... it leads to the library.. how climactic

classroom buildings here are pretty...

drunken moon lake...

so peaceful!

apparently KFC's here are huge in taiwan! like they're EVERYWHERE and they're 3 floors... fancy!

this is the first yogurt place i've found in taipei... i guess froyo isn't a huge thing here in taipei... but this one's cool.. it's like yogurtland :) ... a friendly reminder of home
